I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but "general" seems good enough for now.

In my current line of work, I end up with various electronic pieces that need to be thrown away, (power supplys, inverters, odds and ends) but deep down, I really don't have the heart to throw away this stuff that I'm sure the handier people around here might be able to do something with.

Anyone interested in these? I'm not electronic savvy myself, maybe one day, but for now, I know I won't do anything with them other than dust collectors. I'll get a list / some pictures going here in the next few days if needed, just let me know, they would be free. I'm not angry enough with my job to try and sell any of it.

I'm kinda in the same boat, especially with IBM compatible type PC's  I got a dozen or so.  But I can't just throw the stuff out, it works, I just got the newer model, and since electronics are largely shipped over seas and stripped by slave labor in rather hazardous ways, even recycleing is out.  I thought about building computer and just giving them away, but who wants an old 286, even for freee when computers are so cheap now days?

Then there's Tubes, I got dozens of TV's, and lots of those even have lead in them, so it's an even bigger problem.  Their huge, bulky, heavy, and nobody wants them   Where's the love?

So...the junk just sits in my back room, hoping for a home some day, or maybe a tornado to hit so it can go on the ultimate adventure before dying a horrible mangling death LOL

If you have a fleamarket, you could try dumping stuff there, if it's not to old (and is complete) you could try goodwill or whatever.  If it's just parts or whatever, try something like a TVor computer repair shop (if you got one in your neck of the woods)

Unfortunately, I have even thrown my share of stuff away, just simply because well, I don't know what to do with it.

Fleamarkets here in Florida are scary, and they would end up on Ebay.....haha. Other than that, I just had a whimsical vision of someone crazy taking them and then posting some sort of electrical monstrosity / amazing piece of something. It would be a little less un-dramatic than just taking them to a place to get recycled.

I'll get them recycled before trashing them if it comes to me running out of space, but for now, there is plenty of room. I think I'll post a few on Make, maybe I'll get some interest there. Though a list would be helpful still.

There are 4 barcode scanners / (lasers!!!111 pew pew pew!) that I've wondered if I could be creative with. I might hook one up to a power supply to see if it fires up and maybe try and burn my eyeballs out......

Well, that sounds like fun.  If they have detachable cords, you could give them to the kids (or the neighbors kids) to actually be lasers LOL

I once took an old Primestar (satelite) box and took the mainboard out, mounted a clock kit to it, and gave it to a local electronics store....it was still there till the day it went out of business.  Wonder how many "what the hell is that" questions they got from it?

I hope I am not to late to add to this, but have you looked up DIY and Circuit Bending?  There would be many interested in those type of items.

Also look up Noise (music) and Noisicians.  I know many of them who love that kind of stuff, and are always looking for more, even if just as decorations.
