I'm always on the lookout for rare, odd, historical auto websites. Came across a few that fit the ticket.

http://bringatrailer.com/
BaT will make you cry. A Triumph Dolomite Sprint in perfect shape for $8900 and not too far from me. Daily updates, plenty of discussion.

And it's not pretty. This is more my speed- rusted cars being used. I mean, who'd bother with beauty shots of a Pinto? These guys do.

Not an online mag, a real paper one that's mailed to the house. How's that for retro?
I sub to the Sports and Exotic mag and love the subject matter. At least one unrestored daily driver is featured every issue. Patina.

Might I suggest http://justacargeek.blogspot.com/

The guy finds some of the real rare oddball/retro cars for sale.  Only one or two posts a day but some great finds.  Also if you have anything interesting he will post it to the site, I got my old 280ZX Turbo on there, how I miss that car!

Neat blog. I just read his post about the 1982 TR8. I love those cars, even though they're uniformly awful. Thank goodness I don't have anywhere to keep it, or I'd find myself trundling off to Vancouver to buy it...

You know, I have loathed....actually despised the TR7 and TR8's, I mean, imho they must be the ugliest things out there compared to the other TR's.  However, ever since the guy wrote about them on his blog, I want to buy one.  In fact, everything he has written about, I want to buy it, so its a pretty dangerous site for those who have weak control over there spending.

Loathing? Not sure the TR wedge designs ever evoked that much emotion from me.

The TR7 would definitely find itself alongside the Fiat X1/9 and the Porsche 914 in the Retro Thing automotive gallery. All three were somewhat odd, although the TRs were perhaps the strangest of the lot.

Loathing is a pretty strong word to use.  I guess I look at the TR7 and just see what a missed opportunity for Triumph, I know the car didn't single-handedly kill the British sports car industry, or even the Triumph brand, but it did not help.  With a great history of cheap, open top sports cars, it all ended with this TR7/8.  The styling was, imho, just awful.  I love the X1/9, even the odd little Porsche 914, but I just cannot love the TR7.  To be fair, the other UK open top roadster, the Reliant Scimitar SS1, is battling it out to be the ugliest open top roadster of all time.  I challenge anyone to find something that looks just as bad as these two...

Great blog- another I'll visit daily.

British Leyland in the 70's was full of old boy Triumph men. Many were very anti-MG.

The MGB had an opportunity to live on in an overhead cam 4 since the body was revamped with the rubber bumpers. But the TR men saw the TR7 as the future. McPherson Struts, overhead cam engine, pop up headlights with a wedge design. That was the end of MG. Some rebadging of the TR7 with MG logos was pitiful at best. Aston wanted to take the MG tooling and create a car for them. Even getting as far as developing a prototype.

I've gotten over the my anti-TR fit (I'm a 30 yr MGB owner). Owned a TR6 that never got under it's own power.

If you -ever- get a chance to sit, drive or get close to a TR7... you'll wonder who was dropping acid to put this into production. Granted, the last model year (80- or close) the TR8 was actually a well built car using proper metal that didn't rot instantly.

When the MG plant was shut down, the British roadster died. All that was left was Morgan, TVR and other specialty cars out of real human price range.

Then 10 years later- the Miata brought the British roadster back.
