I'm a huge fan of Ron Moore's rebooted Battlestar Galactica. Now that the series is done, I've been wondering what's going to get remade next.... and if it'll be any good. Here are a few things I'd like to see....

1. A darker, more serious Doctor Who. The 'lost Timelord' concept has so much promise, but it's wasted by positioning the show as a sci-fi comedy for teens. If you look back at the earliest episodes, the show was a dark and mysterious sci-fi drama. I'd love to see a return to that style.

2. A live action version of the Jetsons. I'm envisioning something with more of a Bladerunner visual aesthetic, rather than the cheery colors of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

3. Space: 1999 Revisited. I went to a university that was decorated somewhat like a well-used earthbound version of the Space:1999 set. I'd love to see the premise updated and reimagined. The Eagles would need a few extra dents and dings to make them more realistic, and Moonbase Alpha should have the claustrophobic feel of a massive duct-taped version of Mir instead of an outdated College cafeteria.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see remakes of other shows?

Knight Rider.
Wait- they did that and was a train wreck. Not even a train wreck you look at out of morbid curiosity.

Some things are better left alone.

Wow, has the new Knight Rider already ended?  I think the old series was a lot more about kitt and more mysterious as there wasn't nearly the crew there is on the new one.

Or were you refering to Knight Rider 2000 (which some people told me was a series, but I thought it was just a movie)

Lost in space, more related to the old show, not the 90's movie, that would be awesome.  It's right up there with Star Trek with popularity, so I'm actually quiet surprised it didn'tget a remake itsself already.

Of course, Startrek was fairly good and consistant when Gene was still alive, but when he died, that went out the window.  Enterprise was good, but wasn't justifiably linked to the same timeline.

Yes- the new Knight Rider is gone. I managed to watch a few shows. First, no TransAm but a Mustang GT500KR that can transform into Pursuit mode, a regular V6 Mustang, an old '67 fastback and a F150 pickup. How much did Ford spend on this show?

Knight Rider 2000 was just the movie... the new car was based off the Mitsu/Dodge 3000GT/Stealth. I think Barris did that car. Front wheel drive burnouts. Blech.

Not sure what I'd like remade, I think lost in space would be a great idea, I loved the movie remake when I was younger.

I'd like some more of the Dinosaurs Series

Cool to know, that's to bad, I was hoping for a tie in to the original series, in the pilot, they had the original Knight on there, but no kit :\

You mean the Disney one with the animatronic (I think) dinosaurs?  That show was cool!  I still love animatronics over CGI, somehow CGI just doesn't look.....right.

As much as I'm a little scared, it would be interesting to see remakes of Blakes 7 and The Prisoner.  This year is supposed to see the return of The Prisoner as a mini-series, and many Blakes 7 projects have been at various stages for many years.

Space:1999 is sadly a pretty rotten show.  I watched the whole series with a sort of sick fascination on DVD, but the stories just aren't there.  The overall setup is interesting, and the characters have a lot of potential, but emotion is handled in such a hamfisted way that it makes it hard to really understand what he producers were going for.

That said, I could see a remake working really well.  The FX and the overall mise-en-scene could remain substantively the same.  Modern audiences are more accustomed to emotionally damaged protagonists on television today, so a new show can explore the isolation the people of Moonbase Alpha must feel. Not only are they trapped in their artificial environment, there are limited options to come for the whole community.

Oh, and they could destroy the earth whe the moon is blasted out of orbit.  They really wimped out of doing that in the original series.

I think remaking The Prisoner is a bad idea. Show builds on vintage futuristic design and mystery plot.
If you would remake this now it would be a sketchy s/f version of Lost.

I agree. The prisoner was very much a product of the sixties, and to recreate it now would most likely destroy the peculiar pseudo-futuristic vibe.

I wouldn't want to see a remake of Blake's 7, for much the same reasons.

i think the market has shifted so greatly that reboots are going to be more or less ultimately disappointing. my biggest complaint complaint about dr who was the various moments of denouement that  was shouted and pontificated through gaps in the frenetic running around, zapping and "oh my! could they maybe really kiss this time?!?!" moments. until there's a major shift away from selling target audiences to advertisers, i dont think we'll see much in the way of genuine creativity in tv.

It gets trotted out every few years or so, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone take a crack at "Twilight Zone" again.
Throw in the allure of Tarrantino or Burton and other famous directors to write and direct episodes and it would make for a tasty program, that wouldn't do too badly in the Nielsens.
"Time Tunnel" is my second choice. (Maybe the White Stripes or some other trendy band can cover it's earworm theme song. )

I would love to see the Incredible Hulk Series return, but not in the style of the new  hulk film etc, rather the way it was when Bill Bixby played the role.

A true classic.... Love the music in it also.

Plus would love to see remakes of Quincy, and also Press Gang - another true masterpiece that is crying out for a remake or sequal...

A few suggestions from my other half include...
happy days, taxi, waltons, little house on the prairie, starsky and hutch, the professionals, fantasy island, the rockford files,c.h.i.p.s, different strokes,, invisible man, mork and mindy, wonder woman,6 million dollar man, space 1999, operation petticoat.

I would love to see more than one solid original work created a year, instead of remaking everything we love from our past because they were proven sellers and because we have no imagination left.

You have to be kidding. The 'Lost Timelord' concept was Russell T Bridge Burning wankery at it's very height. Best way to revive an old show? Destroy every linkage from the old series and then come up with ever more contrived methods of bringing back (and totally annihilating again) every major villain. And on top of it, the earliest episodes weren't dark and mysterious, they were bizarre sci-fi that was engaging themes and places as of yet unexplored in television of the 60's. And people loved it. Now all it seems we can do is recreate a hollow shell of what other people made a generation ago. In particular, Dr. Who, with Russell committing atrocities of literary masturbation that is little better than big budget fan fiction. I don't mind drama in my sci-fi, but this is high drama in a sci-fi setting; a Grade-A example of why recreating shows shouldn't be done.
