I picked up one of these from Walmart about ten years ago, it's facinating how they get all those gears and stuff inside that small frame.  These skeleton watches let you see how everything works without opening it up (which with most clocks results lots of little pieces going flying)

Yeah, it's a shame that manufacturers have to hide those beautiful mechanical movements. I've been meaning to buy a Seiko 5 with a clear back for a while. Wish they sold it in a skeletonized version.

I got one of the military type Seiko 5s just before Christmas last year and it has been my everyday watch ever since. I like the clear back so that I can see the movement, and it's kind of fun to tilt the watch around so that you can watch the self-winding counter weight swoop around too.

I have three other mechanical watches, one of which is a 1950s Omega automatic, and one of the others is a 1948 (so I was told) American made Elgin. But I have to say, the Seiko is the one that I wear all the time. It's accurate, it's handsome, and so far, it seems pretty bullet-proof.

I did replace the nylon band with a stitched leather band though. The hardware that Seiko put on the buckle side of the stock band banged on everything and clattered on my laptop when I typed.

Otherwise, what more can a person ask?
